Past Projects
Going for Gold
Western Canadians know that more economic activity is good, but that more diverse economic activity is even better. In keeping with this, the Canada West Foundation partnered with Western Economic Diversification Canada to explore options for improving western Canada’s international economic competitiveness.
Bow Valley College
Canada West Foundation partnered with Bow Valley College to produce the report Reaching Out: Access to Adult Education and Training in the Calgary Regional Communities. As the final product of the Labour Market Partnership Project (conducted by Bow Valley College), Reaching Out described the findings of two surveys administered by the College. The report identified current labour market demands and created an up-to-date account of challenges faced by individuals and employers with respect to accessing adult education and skills training within the College’s service region.
Western Economic Profiles and Forecasts
From 2004 to 2010 the Canada West Foundation economics team published four economic profiles and forecasts each year (one for each western province), conducted a variety of economic research, organized events on economic topics, participated in regional and national economic policy discussions, generated practical recommendations for improving economic policy in Canada and informed and encouraged debate about the western economy through media commentary. The Western Economic Profiles and Forecasts have been an initiative of the Western Economy Project.
