The Canada West Foundation (the Foundation) is committed to protecting the privacy of your personal information and considers itself accountable for all personal information under its control. This privacy statement is intended to demonstrate our commitment to providing open and transparent privacy policies and practices to help inform our supporters, subscribers, stakeholders and the public about how we may collect, use, or disclose the personal information you choose to share with us.

Personal information is any information that can be used to identify you other than business contact information. Canada West Foundation collects, holds, uses and communicates certain personal information pertaining to you for the following purposes:

  • Managing your subscriptions to email newsletters and Canada West Foundation publications, registering on our website, event planning and registration, potential research avenues, fund development opportunities, and responding to requests for information;
  • Managing invoicing and accounting services relating to your transactions with us;
  • Managing and coordinating any comments you may have submitted to us and our responses to your comments; and
  • Complying with legal and regulatory requirements.

The personal information we collect can include your e-mail address, name, address, telephone number, fax number, and credit card information, as applicable. Canada West Foundation also may ask for demographic information.

The personal information collected by the Canada West Foundation is used exclusively for the purposes listed above and for no other purpose. Moreover, the Foundation collects only the personal information that is strictly necessary in the course of our relationship with you. Canada West Foundation will keep a record of your personal contact information, including copies of any correspondence you send to us and your history of transactions with the Foundation.

From time to time, the Canada West Foundation may update the purpose for which it collects, holds, uses and communicates personal information, in which case you will be notified accordingly so that you may agree to such modification.

Canada West Foundation makes all commercially reasonable efforts to ensure that personal information collected is protected against loss and unauthorized access. Financial information, such as credit card numbers, is kept in a secure location and is restricted to authorized employees. Sharing your Personal Information with Others

The information you provide to the Canada West Foundation is used only to deliver the information you requested, publications you ordered, to process your registration/subscription or event/product payment and to keep you informed of Canada West Foundation's upcoming events, funding opportunities and upcoming research areas.

Canada West Foundation will not rent, sell or trade any of your personal information.

In a very limited number of circumstances, we may disclose your information to third party service providers who help us administer our relationship with you, in the normal course of business. For example, we may need to disclose your financial information to our bank in order to process fees and payments for events and publications.

We only share information that is necessary for the service provider to provide the Canada West Foundation with the service. Canada West Foundation will seek consent for the use or disclosure of the personal and business information we collect at the time of collection. Individuals are entitled to withdraw consent at any time by contacting the Privacy Officer who will then process the request and inform the individual of the implications of withdrawing consent.

If you wish to request a copy of your personal information in our records or a list of third parties to whom we have disclosed your personal information, please send a written request to our Privacy Officer. We will require acceptable proof of your identification before providing you with a response.

If you feel the personal information in our records is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date, please advise our Privacy Officer and the necessary corrections will be made.
